Our panel analyses the UK’s extensive but little-reported geopolitical and economic interests in Latin America.

What are the UK’s current and past interests in Latin America?
British capitalists have long coveted the region’s natural resources, while on a geopolitical level the UK has played a role in subverting democracy and propping up dictatorships.

These practices continue today, such as in the Bank of England’s requisition of Venezuelan gold, the close alliances with a hard-right authoritarian regime in Colombia, or openly supporting the 2019 coup d’état in Bolivia.

We are joined by British investigative journalists John McEvoy and Matt Kennard, who are at the forefront of exposing the dark, hidden reality of UK foreign policy towards Latin America.

Join us for our latest Alborada Online event in which we’ll discuss these questions and more.

*Wednesday 23 March, 7.30-8.30pm GMT*
