More info on Afro-American Project
A musical group whose purpose is to promote Afro-Venezuelan and Caribbean popular music. The group is made up of professional and amateur musicians, which makes it a very interesting ensemble, and true to its popular music expression. It is a new project directed by Venezuelan master percussionist Wilmer Sifontes, one of the most outstanding and sought after Latin percussionists in the Latin scene today. He has an extensive musical history dating back to Venezuela in the 80’s and 90’s before settling in The UK in 1997. In Venezuela he played with bands such as “Autoctono”, “Raza Y Tambor”, “Cosecha” on the folkloric front, on the popular and dance traditions with groups such as “Entreverao”, “Orquesta La Grande” and “Erik Franchesky y su Orquesta”. In the UK he directs his own two bands “Conjunto Sabroso” Salsa band and “Ensamble Criollo”. He also works and tours world wide with the renowned “Salsa Celtica” Scottish band.
